Message from the ceo

Dear Friends,

It’s an exciting time for the YMCA in our community. On June 17, 2014, the Boards of Directors of the YMCA of the Brandywine Valley and the YMCA of the Upper Main Line voted to unite and form a new regional association. On January 1, 2015, our merger became official and our association is now called the YMCA of Greater Brandywine.

The YMCA of Greater Brandywine serves more than 80,000 members at nine locations, Brandywine Y, Coatesville; Jennersville Y, West Grove; Kennett Area Y, Kennett Square; Lionville Community Y, Exton; Octorara Program Center, Atglen; Oscar Lasko Youth Program Center, West Chester; Upper Main Line Y, Berwyn; West Chester Area Y, West Chester and the Y at Great Valley, Malvern.

Through this new regional collaboration, we will increase opportunities to expand and strengthen Y programs and services, particularly in the areas of youth development, healthy living and social responsibility.

Guided by our mission and cause to strengthen the foundations of our community, we're committed to helping kids develop values and confidence; engaging individuals in activities that improve their health; and uniting our community members in support of one another.

For Youth Development

Research shows that the attitudes and behaviors developed during adolescent and teen years have a lasting impact into adulthood. Our YMCA focuses on preparing more kids for success in school and life by providing education and support, along with the physical and emotional guidance kids need to learn, grow and thrive.

For Healthy Living

The obesity crisis threatens the future well-being of children, adults and families in our community. Through our health and wellness programs, the Y plays a key role in helping health-seekers of all ages to decrease their risk for lifestyle-related diseases and improve health.

For Social Responsibility

The Y provides social services that support and empower people to overcome obstacles; provide volunteer opportunities that enable our members to support their neighbors; raise and award funds to ensure that everyone can be part of the Y; collaborate with area organizations to build healthier communities; and care for our environment.

In 2014, the Y provided more than $3 million in financial assistance to children and families throughout Chester County, which helps ensure that no one is turned away from Y programs or services based on their inability to pay.

I am passionate about the good work of the Y and proud of what we do each and every day. I invite you to join us as we strengthen the foundations of our community.
