Leaders of Tomorrow
The Upper Main Line YMCA focuses on giving young people the chance to exercise leadership, build skills, form relationships with caring adults and help their communities.
Our approach to youth development acknowledges that youth are valuable (often untapped) resources able to rebuild and strengthen communities. In addition, to better help young people grow, we also strive to strengthen families and our communities as a whole.
The YMCA provides teens with personal, social and recreational programs in a safe and positive environment that will enhance personal and social skills, teach leadership and responsibility, and promote individual self-esteem. With the YMCA's core values of honesty, caring, respect and responsibility, teens grow new friendships, build confidence and discover personal talents.
- Earth Service Corps
- This national YMCA program for grades 6 through 12 focuses on environmental education. Teens get involved in local environmental service projects, take part in organizing YMCA special events, and participate in day hikes to state forests and wildlife refuges. They also explore many environmental-related careers. This is a great opportunity to develop leadership skills and actively work on conservation efforts.
- Babysitting Training
- Teens can also develop leadership skills and positive work habits in our Babysitting Training, an American Red Cross program for youth ages 12 to 17. This course teaches the ins and outs of babysitting to prepare young people to take responsibility for the care of others. Course content includes first aid basics, home safety and child development.
- Lifetime Sports
- UMLY offers golf, tennis and swimming programs for recreation and competition.
