Kindercamp: Totally Twos (2 1/2 years) | Kindercamp (3-5 years)

Totally Two's

Half Day/2 or 3 Mornings Totally Two’s is for the active and curious 2 ½ year old. Taught by preschool teachers, Totally Two’s offers the total camp experience! Activities include arts and crafts, nature exploration, cooking, science experiments, movement activities and outdoor play. Choose from two-day or three-day per week options. Kindercamp

Full Day or Half Day Calling all Kindercampers! Join us for a summer of swimming, crafts, games, nature exploration and swim lessons taught by YMCA aquatic instructors. Make new friends, learn through activities and have fun during each theme-related session. Children are grouped age appropriately. All group requests must be made by contacting, Karen Murphy at 610-647-9622, x2500 or email at karen.murphy@umly.org at least two week prior to the start of the session. Our Kindercamp offers convenient full- and half-day options for every schedule. Campers must be toilet trained to attend the full day camp. Full Day camp is for children 4 to 5 years of age.

If you are looking to enjoy a variety of activities including field trips, intriguing session themes and awesome special events in a happy and safe environment, then UMLY Day Camp is for you! Campers participate in-group activities that develop creativity, teamwork, and a sense of community.

Each camp group consists of approximately 10 to 14 children, supervised by a minimum of 2 counselors. Boys and girls are grouped separately.

Core Camp
Caring, Honesty, Respect and Responsibility – what do they mean to you and why are they the foundation of the YMCA? In Core Camp, youths will have the opportunity to explore the leader within and bring it to the forefront in once a week group leadership training, exploring each of our YMCA Core Values while still having the ultimate Camp UMLY experience via on site programs in aquatics, arts and humanities, environmental science and extreme sports. Core Camp will also travel off site during the week on fun and adventurous fieldtrips!

Are you a natural leader or looking to find the leader within? What does volunteerism mean to you? Our Summer Teen Leadership Program is curriculum based and promotes well-being, character development and social competence through service learning and leadership projects. Assist our exceptional Camp UMLY counselors in the areas of kinder camp, day camp, arts and humanities, nature and sports in a 2- week internship style format. Teen Vacation Club
There are two weeks left until the start of school! Where did the time go? How will make the most of these last weeks of summer vacation? UMLY’s Teen Vacation Club is the cool way to wrap up the summer fun. Spend the day at the Y: poolside, playing some extreme sports, going on a nature hike, creating cool art and round out the week with one last off campus adventure.

Lil’ Creative Explorers(4-7 years) and Creative Exporers ( 7-12 years )
The ultimate creative adventure! Try a little of everything we have to offer. Science, cooking and art fill each camp day. Paper mache, recyclables and other crafts are a few of the creative projects that campers will create. Breakfast, lunch, dinner and dessert! Enjoy making old favorites and learn new cooking skills in the YMCA’s kitchen. Every Friday is make your own pizza day. Science activities include hands on experiences creating gooey, slippery, slimy and weird experiments. Each session has new projects, recipes and science activities.

Clay Camp (7-12 years)
Come enjoy working woth clay and designing sculptures to make you smile. A  fun camp, full of possibilities to spark your sense of play, experimentation and curiosity. Be inspired to create critters for your garden, a lively decorative flower pot and whimsical one of kind sculptures that you can treasure for years to come. We will also take advantage of the Y’s beautiful grounds for a nature walk; some outdoor sketching and a clay dig down by the creek.

Art Exploration ( 8 to 12 years)
Children explore their creativity through lessons that ignite the imagination and encourage skill development. Each class introduces a new artist or art technique. Using real artists’ materials, children sculpt, paint, draw, and print to create artwork that is truly one of a kind.

Baking with Design ( 7-12 years)
This cooking class will focus on learning how to bake from scratch and how you can make healthy substitutions. We will make a variety of baked goods, a new one each day, focusing on the importance of ingredients, and different flavors.  After the delicious baked goods come out of the oven, it is then time to design. Kids will learn the basics of icing and decorating. June 21 to 25

Theatre

Stage Kids (7-10 years )
Beginner performers develop their potential for greatness! Be silly! Serious! Ham it up and go wild! All the components of the stage are covered: Acting, singing and dressing up in costumes. Group drama games teach while the week ends with a mini-show.

Musical Theater Workshop (8- 12 years)
Acting, singing, dancing, music, and costumes are all in a day’s play! Campers spend mornings learning and rehearsing scenes and songs from favorite musicals and afternoons are spent working on stage movement and choreography. At the end of the week the camp will stage a musical revue that will have everyone dancing in the aisles!

Summer Stage (10- 14 years)
Aspiring performers who are interested in acting, singing, dancing and improvisation learn and practice these skills in a theater production. Acting and voice coaching and instruction are major components of this program. Broadway-type performances are staged on the second Friday of each session. Performers also put on a talent show for fellow campers.

Petite Dancers (4- 6 years)
This two week session offers a fun and fanciful experience for the little prince or princess in your life. Through imaginative learning dancers are taught the basics of Ballet and Jazz. Curriculum is based around fun themes that the instructors use to build upon throughout the session. At the end of the two week session dancers will showcase what they’ve learned at a final performance open to family and friends. Youth Dance Intensive (7- 11 years)
This one week intensive offers a unique experience for the young dancer wanting to learn more about the art of dance. Techniques covered include; Modern, Ballet, Jazz, and Hip-Hop. Dancers will also learn about the history of each dance style they study in the intensive. A final performance will be held for family and friends where dancers can showcase what they’ve learned. Choreography Workshop ( 12- 15 years)
This two week workshop is designed for the dancer wishing to use their creative devices to make original dances of their own. Dancers will be lead through exercises aimed at igniting an imaginative spark and forming the foundation for creative expression through dance. A final performance open to family and friends will be held at the end of the two week session where dancers can showcase their creations. Dancers of all levels welcome. Teen & Adult Tap Intensive (16 years and up)
This one week intensive is designed for the intermediate to advanced level tap student. Students will work to master the tap steps they already know while improving upon their movement vocabulary by learning new ones. Dancers must have at least two years of tap training. Environmental Education

Environmental Education Camps

For more than ten years, our Environmental Education Center has been providing programs that connect our community with nature and instill an appreciation and understanding of our natural world. Our programs are led by a staff of professional naturalists, teachers, and certified instructors.

Nature Safari Camp (4-7 years)
Children experience nature firsthand through shaded woodland and wetland walks, nature craft projects, games, stories, and an up-close looks at the Environmental Education Center’s animals.

Tracks & Trails (7-10 years)
Summer is the time to test bullfrog catching skills, search for salamanders on a woodland hike, and walk through the creek with nets in hand! This is the YMCA’s all day nature camp, where campers participate in nature games, arts and crafts, stories, and daily hikes through our woods and wetlands. This eco-experience opens the door of discovery to the natural world.

Jr. Wildlife Explorer Academy (7-9 years)
Beginner Level This program allows the younger explorer to trek out on field trips to some of our region’s parks, forests, and preserves. These field trips will be in close vicinity to the YMCA and will be light hikes on well-worn paths, rain or shine. Days one and five will be spent at the YMCA. A daily recreational swim is included.

Wildlife Explorer Academy (10-13 years)
Beginner/Intermediate Levele Our staff naturalists lead hikes to mountain peaks, tidal salt marshes, towering oak forests, and through cool running streams. Participants take day trips to regional state forests, parks and/or preserves to prepare for the culmination of the outdoor adventure experience, an overnight camping trip at Hickory Run State Park! Participants will undergo rigorous physical activity for extended periods of time, rain or shine!

Week of June 21: Hibernia State Park, Hawk Mountain, White Clay Creek, Hickory Run State Park
Week of July 12: Nolde Forest, The Wetland’s Institute, St. Peter’s Village, Hickory Run State Park

Fishing Academy 101 (9-12 years)
Beginner Level Learn the basics from Mike Mostello, our certified fishing instructor. In addition to taking home a brand new rod, reel, and tackle box, your young anglers will learn casting, pole lining, water reading, baiting, equipment maintenance and repair, and fish retrieval and release. This 4-day Academy includes daily trips to local ponds, creeks, lakes, and/or reservoirs and meets on the following weeks:

Advanced Fishing Academy (10-14 years)
Intermediate Level Prerequisite: Fishing Camp, Fishing Academy 101, or similar experience with approval from the Environmental Education Coordinator Jean Zimmerman, x2408. Use the skills learned in Fishing 101 for more challenging fishing fun. Young anglers spend most of their time fishing at local ponds, creeks, lakes, and/or reservoirs with our certified fishing instructor. Participants will receive new fishing equipment. Program led by Mike Mostello and his staff.

Eco-Adventure Academy (11-14 years)
Beginner/Intermediate Level Come experience the thrills of the great outdoors with our environmental education staff. From rock climbing and zip lining to kayaking and canoeing this academy teaches outdoor recreation skills. Day trips to regional state forests, parks, and outdoor recreation facilities are on the schedule rain or shine. Activities include river canoeing, kayaking, white water rafting, geocaching, rock climbing, and/or zip lining. Some field trips may require participants to arrive early and depart later than camp hours. This truly is a hands-on feet wet experience.

Marine Ecology (12-15 years)
Beginner/Intermediate Level Explore the natural wonders of New Jersey’s Barnegat Bay in cooperation with the Sedge Island Natural Resource Education Center. Come discover the delicate nature of the marine environment through fun activities including marsh walks, fishing, crabbing, clamming and kayaking. Learn to identify some marine life and sea birds. Marine Ecology participants will be staying at Sedge House, a renovated duck-hunting cottage on Sedge Island, equipped with a common room, 7 bunkrooms, a full kitchen, and dining room. On Monday participants will spend the day exploring the Marine Mammal Stranding Center in Brigantine. Then our adventurers will set out for Sedge Island where they will spend four evenings at Sedge House.

Maine Wilderness Adventure (13-18 years)
Beginner/Intermediate Level Come discover the rugged coast and scenic wilderness of Maine with this trip to Acadia National Park! Our naturalist staff will lead this program to explore, hike, and study the unique wildlife and ecosystems found throughout this cluster of islands on the Maine coast. While surrounded by the ocean, Acadia hosts a wide variety of freshwater, estuarine, forest, and intertidal ecosystems, many of which contain plant and animal species of international, national and state significance. Through hands-on activities in forests, bogs, and on beaches, students will learn to identify and observe the diverse flora and fauna in this scenic national park. Wildlife that may be spotted throughout the program include moose, black bear, white-tailed deer, seals, whales, common loon, bald eagle, northern woodland warblers, and more. This program is based from campground cabins, that include hot and cold running water, electricity, and full baths. All meals will be provided for throughout the program. Students will be transported from the YMCA to Maine and back. Transportation expenses included.

Glacier National Park, Montana (14 – 20 years)
The magnificent and rugged northern Rockies await you. For 100 years, this has been the crown jewel of the national park system, with its pristine forests, alpine meadows, rugged mountains, and spectacular lakes.
  • Highlights of the program include two-day overnight rafting trip on the Middle Fork Flathead River, hiking to the Grinnell Glacier, Iceberg Lake, and exploring the park’s diverse ecosystems and wildlife.
  • Base camp is at the Glacier Rafting Company that features a two-story lodge with hot and cold running water, electricity, full kitchen, and full baths.
  • All meals will be provided for throughout the program. Ground transportation in Montana is included.
  • Air transportation to Kalispell, Montana is NOT included.
  • YESC staff will greet participants at the Kalispell airport and see them off on their return home.

Our summer sports programming goes beyond teaching tactics and skills by weaving in important fitness and character development concepts. The programs are game planned to promote fun, improve skills and learn fair play.

This traditional YMCA camp is for those who eat and sleep sports. Each action-packed week includes sports-themed activities. Campers are placed in age appropriate groups to learn and play sports such as baseball, basketball, soccer, flag football, and more.

ImmaculatA University Baseball (7-15 years)
This camp teaches the fundamentals of the game through lectures, drills and games. During the week, all areas of the game including hitting, pitching, defense, base running, conditioning and rules will be covered. Campers get outstanding one-on-one instruction coupled with lots of enthusiastic, positive encouragement. Special guests and a free t-shirt.

UMLY Soccer Camp (7-15 years)
Our soccer camp teaches the fundamentals from shooting and dribbling to the tactics of the game. The coaching staff includes current high school coaches along with local college and high school players. The camp week concludes with skills competitions and awards. UMLY Street Hockey Camp (9-12 years)
Floor hockey camp covers the fundamentals of hockey through drills, games and practices. From scoring a goal to saving a goal will help improve basic skills. The UMLY coaching staff includes former players and teachers. The camp week concludes with skills competitions and awards. Each camper gets a soccer ball and camp t-shirt.

A great camp for first time players! This camp gives our youngest tennis enthusiasts an opportunity to learn the basics of the game while having tons of fun. Using USTA’s proven Quickstart program, with a ten foot mini-net, easy to hit low compression balls and on court aids, our staff will make each day full of fun filled successes. Our staff will introduce progressions and review basic techniques for both forehand and backhand ground strokes and volleys. A great camp for beginners and intermediate level players! This camp gives our tennis enthusiasts an opportunity to learn the basics of the game while having tons of fun. Elite Tennis Academy
This program is designed for the tennis player looking for serious fun but in a competitive atmosphere. Our certified pros will continue to teach fundamental tennis skills and strategies appropriate for each player’s ability while reinforcing correct technique. Using a variety of fed and live ball drills as well as a progressive choice of games, players will develop the skills required to compete in live matches as well as participate in our Junior teams throughout the summer.

Golf Academy (7 to 18 years)
Certified professionals blend of instruction and course work to progress the young golfer to a higher level of play
Instruction Students learn to master the short game, putting, chipping, pitching, sand play, rules and etiquette. Our certified professionals will guide the golfer from the tee box to the hole working on form and finesse. Stroke production and shot selection will be covered as well. Play different local courses each day.
Course tudents will experience supervised course play, daily range instruction, complimentary lunch and beverages, and mental preparation. All of this instruction in a safe, healthy and FUN learning environment.

Camp Plus Swim
Add swimming to your child’s Camp day! Plus swim lessons allow children involved in Camp and Academy programs to get swim lessons (or additional swim lessons) 5 days per week.The lessons are up to half the price of general group lessons and are only offered to Camp and Academy program participants. Aquatics Adventure - Overnite Canoe Trip
Participants get the opportunity to explore fun Aquatic Activities other than swim lessons and competitive swimming. This two day, one night river trip will expand canoing skills by learning to navigate up to class two rapids in an open canoe. Participants will also learn leave no trace camping and basic wilderness survival skills.

Ability Center Camp Wee Bit
This program is for children with special needs, physically, and intellectually. We provide a safe and supportive summer camp that fosters the development of positive social and learning skills. Campers are not fully integrated but they do participate in activities catered to their skills alongside peers. It is our hope that each child forms meaningful and lasting friendships. Participants need not be membersh of the YMCA.
